From E-Coat - 1990 To Green Coat - 2008
In the 90’s Kelly-Moore became one of the first and only paint companies to collect and remanufacture its products into “E-Coat”, recycled paint line. In California, Kelly-Moore is the first paint maker created a paint that contains less than VOCs 100 grams/liter. These paints just “smell” less. Why is that? Well the typical paint “smell” is influenced by two factors – the type of resin used and the quantity of solvent added. All resin has some degree of odor, but Kelly-Moore uses a special resin with very low odor, as compared with most commercial resins. And solvents? Well, here’s a starting fact – Kelly-Moore has NONE of the solvents that are added to conventional water-based paint. None. Typically, paint that’s drying releases solvents into the air via evaporation. Since Kelly-Moore doesn’t have these solvents, it has very low odor … and less of the fumes that can be bother some.
